Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel III calls for legislative approval on President Marcos’ recent order for the ‘Bagong Pilipinas’ hymn and pledge to be recited during flag ceremonies in public sector organizations, saying that such changes require formal legislation.
Pimentel argued that the mandate, which extends to all government agencies, local government units , and educational institutions, particularly State Universities and Colleges , should originate from the elected representatives of the people. “The students therein are not even government employees. They all observe the established flag ceremony under existing law,” Pimentel noted, highlighting the complexities involved in enforcing Marcos’ executive order across different sectors.
