President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has called on US President Joe Biden to use his influence to control the movement in oil prices, citing its impact on the economy and local businesses.
In a meeting with Biden on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit in Cambodia, Marcos flagged the impact of rising oil prices on business and livelihood to Biden, as reported on GMA’s “24 Oras Weekend” on Sunday.
Marcos also cited topics such as strengthening ties of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations with the United States in terms of maritime security, transnational crime, terrorism, and trafficking in persons. In a video released by the Office of the Press Secretary, Marcos told Biden that deeper talks on the said topics could be discussed at a later time.
“I was just talking to the Secretary of State and I have asked our ambassador to work on the details of what we had discussed in New York,” he said.Locally, pump prices have recorded a year-to-date net increase as of November 18, 2022—gasoline at P17.25 per liter, diesel at P36.30 per liter, and kerosene at P28.60 per liter.per liter of gasoline by P1.40, while cutting those of diesel by P0.50 and kerosene by P0.35.
