PRESIDENT Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. approved the importation of 21,060 metric tons of onions, 940 metric tons less than the recommendation of the Department of Agriculture of 22,000 MT.In a radio interview, Agriculture Deputy Spokesman Rex Estoperez said that Marcos wants the arrival of all imported bulbs to be done on or before Jan. 27, 2023.

According to Estoperez, Marcos also agreed on the allocation of the imported bulbs wherein 50 percent or 10,530 MT will go to Luzon, 25 percent or 5,265 MT each will be allocated to Visayas and Mindanao.'There will be mechanics. If we are strict at present, we will make sure we will be more strict in the entry of imported onions. There will be first border control and second border control,' Estoperez added.
