In the aftermath of San Miguel Beer and TNT's winless stints in the East Asia Super League Champions Week, PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said the pro league intends to come up with a more organized, prepared system in future EASL tournaments.
Marcial admitted that the Beermen and Tropang Giga, who finished 1-2 in the 2022-23 PBA Philppine Cup, didn't have much time to prepare for the weeklong tournament held in Utsonomiya and Okinawa, Japan last week. The result was a disastrous winless campaign for both powerhouse squads, marked by blowout losses to Japanese and Korea squads in the five-day tournament won by Anyang KGC, which had Filipino import Rhen Abando.
Amid the humiliating defeats suffered by two of the PBA's most decorated squads, Marcial said he sat down for a meeting with EASL founder and chief executive officer Matt Beyer and some of the top bigwigs from other Asian leagues to plot the league's future participation in the Asian league. While EASL has yet to announce how the tournament will look like, Marcial said he already asked for the schedule so he could include it in the PBA Annual board meeting's agenda.
