Unless there is a course correction before their national convention, the Republican Party is buying in to a candidate who has demonstrated complete disregard for the Constitution.
Published: Jun. 01, 2024, 8:02 a.m.Photo by Daniel WagnerFormer President Donald J. Trump is a convicted felon. This is not a campaign statement. It is not a personal attack. It is a fact.
Senate Leader Mitch McConnell clings to the hope that the Trump verdict will be overturned. He, also, is willing to ride the MAGA roller coaster right through Nov. 5. Other Republicans like U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and Marco Rubio, R-Fl., are fanning the flames of another insurrection to bolster their standard bearer.
Felony convictions prevent individuals from even voting in many states and they result in rejections of most job applications. So, it is fair to ask a simple question: “Will you vote for a convicted felon for president? If the answer to that question is “yes” then our political system has failed us. It has allowed scurrilous candidates to game the process and propel themselves to the most powerful office on the planet with little or no real credentials and some real and proven shortcomings.
Are you ready for a complete implosion of the Constitution when such a man has the reins of power again?
