Testimony in the trial of three Tacoma police officers charged in the death of Manny Ellis continues Monday as Ellis' mother is set to take the stand.

Officers Christopher Burbank, Matthew Collins and Timothy Rankine are charged with manslaughter. Collins and Burbank are also charged with second-degree murder. The case stems from an encounter in March 2020, when officers detained Ellis, who later died in police custody. Prosecutors claim the officers did not follow their training.The officers' attorneys insist Ellis had a deadly amount of meth in his system and that contributed to his death.
