RICE vendors in Mandaue City are feeling the effects of the P50 increase per sack, a price surge commonly observed during the holiday season.Vendor Filipina Gungob raised concerns on Friday, Dec. 6, 2024, that this hike could significantly impact her sales. She said rising rice prices would force vendors, including her, to raise selling prices, potentially burdening local customers.“If we don’t adjust our prices, we’ll incur losses and won’t earn any profit,” Gungob said in Cebuano.

She is selling the sack at P1,380.While she has yet to increase prices due to stockpiling rice before the price hike, she plans to adjust her prices next week.Flor Sumalinog, another long-time rice vendor, said she is not surprised by the price hike.“Every Christmas season, rice prices inevitably rise,” Sumalinog said in Cebuano.Though she feels forced to increase prices during this period, Sumalinog said this is a reality vendors face every year.
