WASHINGTON—Senators returned to work Monday with the Democrats defending theirwhile Republicans stepped up their criticism of the package, arguing over the impact on inflation and households’ tax burdens.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer reiterated Monday that he plans to start votes related to the measure this week. Democrats need to keep all 50 members of their caucus on board to pass the bill through the evenly divided Senate, as all Republicans oppose the legislation.
