A 23-year-old man was sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to murder stemming from a 2020 drug deal at a Clear Lake parking lot, according to the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
On Wednesday, Kendrick Marquis Bluitt, 23, admitted to shooting 21-year-old Caleb McCarty outside a gas station in the 200 block of El Dorado on Sept. 30, 2020, according to the District Attorney's Office.Bluitt was accused of going to the gas station to buy marijuana from McCarty. The two men were in the back seat of a car during the attempted deal. They got into an argument and Bluitt shot McCarty in the back as he was getting out of the car.
Bluitt fled from the scene of the shooting but was arrested the next day. His plea came one day before his murder trial was scheduled to begin. “Gun violence in our community is pervasive and far too often we see someone pull a gun and start shooting just to solve an argument,” said District Attorney Kim Ogg. “And when that happens, it is a tragedy for everyone involved.”
