One man was killed and two others were wounded by gunfire Sunday night on a street in Newark, authorities said. Altariq Johnson, 46, of Newark, was killed in the shooting, which occurred shortly after 8 p.m. in the 800 block of 18th Avenue, according to acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II.
Stephens said Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:26 p.m. Two other men were taken to University Hospital in Newark with gunshot wounds. Their conditions were not available on Monday.
