A man was arrested Thursday, accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl who went missing from a Dallas Mavericks game last year and was later found in Oklahoma City.
Emanuel Cartagena, 33, was booked into the Williamson County jail Thursday on a charge of sexual assault of a child. He also faces a marijuana charge and is being held on $81,000 bail. It is unclear whether he has an attorney. Police said Cartagena met the girl outside a game at the American Airlines Center on April 8, then took her to a house in Dallas and sexually assaulted her.
The girl’s father told Dallas police and American Airlines Center officials that she was missing after she went to the bathroom and didn’t return. Dallas police said an off-duty officer working at the game was notified, and authorities searched for her that evening.Surveillance video showed the teen leaving the arena with a man, police said. Authorities treated her as a runaway, sending the case to North Richland Hills, where she lives.
The Texas Counter-Trafficking Initiative later discovered illicit photos of the girl online — advertising her for sex — and told authorities in Oklahoma, an arrest-warrant affidavit said. Police in Oklahoma City rescued the girl at the hotel where she was being held on April 18.
