7:36 AM on Feb 1, 2022 CST — Updated 57 minutes agoAuthorities have identified the armed man who a Mesquite police officer shot and killed after he fired at police multiple times Monday night.Around 8:30 p.m. Monday, the Mesquite officer located a vehicle in the 800 block of Interstate 30 that matched that of a suspect wanted on a warrant by another agency for evading police. When the officer approached the vehicle, Butler fled and the officer followed him on foot.
During the chase, Butler, who was reportedly armed, fired multiple rounds at the officer, the Mesquite Police Department said in a news release. The officer then shot at Butler, striking him.The officer is a three-year veteran of the department and was not injured in the gunfire, police said. The officer’s name was not released.
