A New Jersey man has been charged with decapitating a seagull at a Jersey Shore boardwalk amusement park over Independence Day weekend, authorities said Monday.
North Wildwood police charged Franklin Zeigler, 29, of Cape May, with third-degree animal cruelty in the July 6 incident at Surfside Pier, one of the parks of the Morey’s Piers & Beachfront Water Parks franchise.A witness reported the attack to police, authorities said. Zeigler became confrontational with police questioning him, leading to charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, authorities said.
A first appearance in the case is scheduled for Aug. 9, New Jersey court records show.
