Missouri Republican Senate candidate EricGreitens has received nearly 78% of his campaign funds from sources outside of Missouri.
Greitens has raised about $416,600 within the state, and $1.5 million outside, according to Open Secrets. These numbers come just a week after a super PAC supporting him raised $900,000 toward the race, in which he is one of 20 Republican candidates for retiring Sen. Roy Blunt's seat.
While Greitens's greatest funding area is St. Louis, Los Angeles and Boca Raton are ranked second and third in contributions, respectively. Both of these coastal areas outrank fourth-place Kansas City by over $30,000, with Springfield in fifth place.Greitens has faced controversies because of his viral ad vowing to hunt"Republicans In Name Only" and the domestic abuse allegations from his ex-wife, Sheena Greitens.
Out of the other candidates, Lucas Kunce, Timothy Shepard, and Gena Ross are the Democratic hopefuls who have similarly raised more campaign funds outside the red state than within. Mark McCloskey is the only other Republican hopeful to have raised less in-state funds. Kunce, the likely Democratic candidate with a 6% chance of winning Blunt's seat, still has two Missouri cities as his top two contributors, St. Louis and Kansas City, respectively, followed by New York City, Washington, D.C., and San Fransisco.
Meanwhile, Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt had 78% of his financial support from Missourians, and Rep. Vicky Hartzler received 74% of her funding similarly. There are 11 Democratic candidates and four independent candidates in the Aug. 2 primary.
