Magnolia West takes on the Lions at 4 p.m. Thursday at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.
Magnolia West made program history on Saturday afternoon by reaching the University Interscholastic League Class 5A tournament for the first time ever.Frisco Reedy is that team and the Lions are also a program on a history-making run.The other semifinal match, at 7 p.m. that evening, will feature Argyle and Boerne Champion . Argyle is a three-time state champion while Champion is also making its first state appearance.
Magnolia West enters the state final four after taking two out the final three games of the Region III-5A championship against Lake Creek. In both games played at Texas A&M’s Blue Bell Park, the Mustangs won 4-2 in extra innings Friday night in Game 2 and then won 6-2 after scoring all its runs in the middle innings Saturday afternoon.
Reedy, a school that opened in 2015, is in the playoffs for the fifth time ever. After missing out on the postseason in 2022, the Lions reached this spring after tying for second in District 9-5A with Frisco and were three games back on district champion Frisco Lone Star.
