PALO, Leyte — The Leyte Tourism Investment and Promotion Center (LTIPC) announced that the MacArthur Landing Memorial National Park will be rehabilitated in preparation for the upcoming 80th Leyte Gulf Landings Anniversary.
PALO, Leyte — The Leyte Tourism Investment and Promotion Center announced that the MacArthur Landing Memorial National Park will be rehabilitated in preparation for the upcoming 80th Leyte Gulf Landings Anniversary.The rehabilitation will commence on Thursday, the LTIPC said.'This maintenance is part of our commitment to providing a beautiful and well-maintained park for all visitors,' the LTIPC said in a statement on Tuesday.
The landing led to a major naval engagement of World War II which destroyed the Japanese timetable. The Japanese eventually surrendered.Situated in the municipality of Palo on Leyte Island in Eastern Visayas, the war memorial is a famous tourist destination in the region.On July 12, 1977, President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. signed Letter of Instruction 572, designating it as a national park.
