But the general idea is that we’ve reached a tipping point with power level to the point where it’s genuinely hard to design new content around it, so some changes need to be made.
It’s a lot of nerfs, which I know many people will hate, and yet all of these cut to some pretty serious problems inright now, heavy and super use in PvP, and insta-boss burning in PvE, which has graduated from fun to flat-out silly and hard to design encounters around. This is a way of pruning back power creep, which has to happen from time to time, so there are not many of these I hate the sound of. Though it will no doubt take some time to get used to the changes.
There’s a bit at the end where Smith talks about how the world is going to evolve, but I’m probably going to save that for another article tomorrow. All in all, I appreciated this update, and all Luke’s updates, and his relentless transparency. This is a great format, and I would not say no to at least one of these updates once a season from him.
