THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board 7 started distributing the fuel subsidy for public transportation operators in the region on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023.
Operators of modern public utility jeepneys and utility vehicle express minibuses will receive P10,000 each, while operators of traditional PUJs and UVEs, public utility buses, minibuses, taxis, shuttle services taxis, transport network vehicle services, tourist transport services, school transport services and filcabs will receive P6,500 each.
Perez said none of Piston’s over 300 active members have received the subsidy, adding that some members are apprehensive that it will just end up in the pockets of big-time operators. Republic Act 8479, or the Downstream Oil Industry Deregulation Act of 1998, had vested market forces with the authority to dictate the price of gasoline and other petroleum-based products for consumers.
