Lower Manhattan’s long comeback recently reached a new milestone when jobs in the neighborhood exceeded the number in September 2001 for the first time since the terrorist attacks.
Private-sector employment for lower Manhattan rose to 251,334 jobs in the third quarter of 2018, the most recent data available, according to an analysis by the Alliance for Downtown New York, a local business organization. That edged past the 247,938 jobs recorded for the quarter that ended in September 2001.
