A statue of the Virgin Mary was left untouched after the cathedral it was housed in collapsed during the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria.
Turkish Jesuit priest Father Antuan Ilgit shared the photo in a Facebook post shortly after the calamity.
“The image of Our Lady was unharmed in the quake that brought down Annunciation Cathedral in the city of Alexandretta in the Turkish province of Hatay,” he wrote, according to“This image will be our strength and with her, we will face everything,” he added. “We continue to trust in God and in his holy providence,” he added.
