The Texas students' section is full before an NCAA college football game between Alabama and Texas, Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022, in Austin, Texas. AUSTIN — With about eight minutes remaining and the threat of a monumental upset still brewing, an additional brigade of security guards marched over to Royal-Memorial Stadium’s student section.
Everything was going so well for Texas redshirt freshman Quinn Ewers. He played with poise from the jump, firing 12 passes and connecting on nine of them in the first quarter. He returned in the second half wearing street clothes. Redshirt sophomore Hudson Card finished off the game, though he was a little banged up after the game, too.
That push upfront allowed Texas to force Alabama into five consecutive three-and-out drives as quarterback Bryce Young struggled against collapsing pockets and solid coverage in the secondary. “He got rolled up on, so things had to start getting adjusted,” Sarkisian said of the offensive game plan. “But I thought Hudson handled it great. A couple really good completions there, a couple of big scrambles you know, he's always used his legs. As a guy who wasn’t getting first-team reps all week, when you come in those types of situations are never easy. And I thought he performed more than admirably.”For a few minutes, Auburn looked like he’d be crowned King of Austin.
