Chain control was in effect on Interstate 80 over Donner Pass and Interstate 50 over Echo Summit on Monday morning as a late-season storm swept the Tahoe Basin.
"Local bursts of heavier snow" are possible in heavier showers, the weather service said on Twitter.
Intermittent snow showers remain in the forecast through the day Monday and into Tuesday. Slick roads and travel delays are likely, the National Weather Service"Rain/snow showers will continue through the evening with snow levels dropping," the weather service's Reno office posted on Twitter."Drivers can expect and should be prepared for winter like driving conditions if traversing the Sierra tonight into tomorrow morning.
Weather service forecaster Hanna Chandler-Cooley said because this storm is hitting at the end of the season, the snowfall is much lighter than it would be in the middle of winter and only a couple inches are expected.
