The Kansas City Royals are looking to extend their winning streak to seven as the team travels to St. Petersburg, Fla., to play a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field starting on Friday evening.
Heading into the matchup, the two programs could not be in more different spots. While the Royals are scorching hot, the Rays are riding a four-game losing streak which includes suffering a sweep to the Boston Red Sox in its last series. During the Royals stretch, they have outscored their opponents 46-18.
For Kansas City, right-handed pitcher Seth Lugo will start on the mound. The nine-year veteran, who has appeared in ten games this season, has allowed 51 hits, 14 runs , walked 13 batters, and struck out 58 in 65.1 innings of work. Tampa Bay is set to start right-handed pitcher Shawn Armstrong on the mound. Armstrong, who will be making his fourth start of the season, has allowed 21 hits, 11 runs , walked nine batters, and struck out 26 in 22.1 innings of work.
Currently, Salvador Perez is leading the team in home runs with nine, runs batted in with 39, and batting average with a .337. Bobby Witt Jr., its leading the team in hits with 61 and stolen bases with 16. Vinnie Pasquantino leads the team in drawn walks with 21.
