A desperate humanitarian crisis is deepening in Gaza. Aid workers say plans by the US and other nations to ramp up aid via airdrops, a new port and a maritime corridor all fall short of pressuring Israel to lift its tight siege on the enclave. Israeli strikes on residential buildings in southern and central Gaza killed at least eight people and wounded scores of civilians Saturday, according to health officials and the Palestinian news agency.
Israel says it continues to strike Hamas targets. Canada and Sweden will both resume funding to the main UN aid agency in Gaza, UNRWA, after pulling support over Israel's claim that staff members were involved in the October 7 attacks. The agency chief says Israel has yet to prove the allegations. Satellite imagery shows Israel's military has completed the construction of a road splitting Gaza in two, in a sign of its post-war plans for the enclave.
