Donald Trump is scheduled to testify Monday as a defendant in the civil fraud trial in which he is accused of fraudulently inflating the value of company assets.
When Donald Trump issued his financial statements, they came with disclaimers saying other people may come to different conclusions about Trump’s net worth and the value of his assets — something the attorney general’s office may raise in questioning Monday. In his deposition for the case, from April, Trump referred to the disclaimer as a “worthless clause,” explaining that “it makes the statement ‘worthless’ from a legal perspective.
Trump testified that he “never felt that these statements would be taken very seriously” because of the disclaimer at the front and figured people would come to their own conclusions. When asked in the deposition why he bothered preparing the statements at all, Trump said it was a place to see his properties listed in one place. “I don’t think they were given much credence, the statements. But it’s really — it’s a compilation. It’s a fairly good compilation of properties,” he said.
