The home release date for Disney's live-action The Little Mermaid remake has been revealed and will be available to watch later this month.
Disney's live-action The Little Mermaid remake will soon be available to watch at home. Based on the 1989 animated film of the same name, The Little Mermaid follows Ariel as she dreams of exploring the world beyond her ocean. The remake has received mixed reviews and made $527.5 million at the box office at the time of writing.
Now, Collider reports the live-action The Little Mermaid will be available to purchase digitally on July 25. The film will also be available on DVD, Blu-Ray, and 4K Ultra HD on September 19. A streaming date for Disney+ has yet to be announced. Compared to the original's 83-minute runtime, the live-action The Little Mermaid is 135 minutes in length.
However, not every change in The Little Mermaid has been applauded by critics. While The Little Mermaid reviews heaped praise on Halle Bailey's Ariel, other aspects of the movie, such as its new songs and realistic renditions of Sebastian and Flounder, were criticized. Its box office performance has also been disappointing, given its $250 million budget, which could require up to $625 million at the box office to break even.
