Lohan dropped the odd video for the new single on Instagram (via toofab)
For one thing, the video -- which you can watch above -- appears to feature clips and moments captured form Lindsay's real life, as opposed to professional quality video imagery you'd expect in a music video, and they're not particularly well edited or even good quality shots of Lindsay. The bulk of it features her meeting a young fan in a foreign country, but there is a lot of awkward footage and some of it is repeated two or three times.
"This video is a compilation of vignettes of life," ," Lindsay said of the clip which also featured a brief moment of her dancing with a friend and random shots of teens skateboarding." She went on t say that it explores "family, love, the process of moving forward and letting go of the past. To live and be happy, free of fear. Just to be grateful and open our eyes to our opportunities instead of numbing the mind.""Xanax" is a song that deals with the overwhelming expectations that we allow other people to put on our lives, succumbing to pressures and allowing anxiety to dominate our worlds.
The good news is that while we don't quite understand the video, the song itself is definitely a bop. It's got a great hook, good rhythm and Lindsay sounds great. A lot of people don't know much about her singing career, but it was attempting to take off at the same time that her overall career trajectory was torpedoing.
Her biggest hit came in 2004 with "Rumors," and "Xanax" marks her first return to music since 2008. It remains to be seen if radio will pick it up, but it may not need to if enough of her fans latch onto the song and start playing and sharing it. In the meantime, Lindsay continues her work as a judge on Australia's version of "The Masked Singer." We imagine it's very possible she could wind up performing this song on that stage before its season is through.
