Please leave us teachers out of culture wars - We educators need support from state leaders, not edicts that impede learningBarasch’s column on teacher shortages and culture wars is on point. As a former high school principal and Latin teacher, I treasured those opportunities to expand student knowledge in off-the-wall questions by students.
Then, in order to make up for the loss in revenue, government officials would most likely lean on regressive taxes such as sales taxes. Of course, I won’t hold my breath waiting for our current state leaders to do something that aids the poor and middle class.Fort Worth schools suspend sex ed lessons — State board member says curriculum fails to meet standards; options reviewed,Texans, take off your “holier-than-thou rose-colored glasses” and please look at reality for the sake of all the abused and unwanted kids in our state.
As these writers, including the governor, all remind us, we have a surplus of funds for the Texas Legislature to distribute. We have bundles of money from federal COVID-19 aid and unspent Medicaid allocations that could be used to improve the lives of those less fortunate. We have a surplus of funds from sales tax revenues that could be shared equally with all Texas residents. The increasing value of our properties has allowed us to consider property tax relief as well.
