Purveyors of false information need to be held to account. And as media savviness is being taught in schools, maybe the children can instruct us grown-ups.comparing fusion energy to Thomas Edison “inventing the light bulb,” which he did not do. There were a lot of light bulbs before Edison developed a practical, long-burning, one.
I would prefer to see the Fairness Doctrine reinstated, so those of us who know better get a fair chance to present opposing views or correct egregious errors.’ gaffe, tired of misguided opinion being presented as fact.Thank you for this editorial. In my opinion, to restore credibility and trust in the public, the entire U.S. population deserves to have the mainstream media report the news accurately, fairly and unbiased.I have enjoyed your series on the idea of governing from the middle.
I find it quite ironic and disappointing that your editorial regarding the public mistrust of the news media never quite identified the true reason for the mistrust. We “people” are fed up with journalists slanting and adding bias to their stories instead of just doing their job and reporting the news.
A key example from the Republican perspective is the reporting on Hunter Biden’s laptop. Media that supported President Joe Biden seemed to ignore that story prior to the 2020 election. Not reporting is just as much fake news as inaccurate reporting. Our public school system too rarely generates students’ confidence in their ability to modify and create their own life plans. Such neglect of a critical component of basic self-confidence also handicaps critical thinking and debate skills. Critical thinking, for this and other reasons, is painfully far from universal among public school graduates.
