Several of the issues posed by a multitude of environmental groups must be disclosed to a broader audience, as this plan to dump treated sewage into a creek that feeds the Comal River potentially threatens local families and the greater Central Texas area.
Not only will this permit affect the landowners, it will generate further destruction to a plethora of habitats. These disastrous nutrients from sewage waste will promote the growth of algae blooms. This expansion of blooms will elicit a cataclysmic domino effect. Individuals in San Antonio, Uvalde, Seguin, Wimberley and Kyle could possibly consume contaminated drinking water and notice a shortage of fish supply, putting what is seen as a faraway issue into a health hazard for every organism. That’s not to say we can’t make a difference to halt this permit from moving forward. Residents must advocate to protect not only their water, but the ecosystem of these species.
As environmental advocacy groups are doing, you too can request public meetings with your local officials. To better our planet for future generations, the change starts locally.It seems that voters are always complaining about how our elected leaders do not have the courage to do the “right” thing. The letter in Friday’s paper is an example of this misconception. Aren’t the leaders elected by their constituents? If you are dissatisfied with the way your “leaders” are behaving, then vote them out of office. But do not blame them for lacking courage. Blame the voters, yourselves, for not having the courage to vote them out of office.
