In early June, I deposited vegetable peelings into the green cart. I froze about three pounds of raw meat scraps to add on green cart day so they would not sit in the spring heat. On the assigned day, June 14, I took the raw meat scraps out of the freezer and tossed them in a paper bag into the green cart before taking it to the curb.
By this time, the vegetable peelings had sat in the warmth of the sun for almost two weeks. But our green carts were not emptied on the assigned day, so the contents have putrefied for an additional two weeks. Does anyone have any idea how bad rotting meat and vegetables smell after more than two weeks? We refuse to put it in our garage because of the odour and flies. Why has it been decided that the green bin would only be emptied every two weeks — even in the summer?
