Letter: 'Sadly, our state leaders are probably right. Utahns 'bet on the come' like no other people. We dote on promises that tinkle in our ears like a wind chime putting us softly to sleep.'
Way to put yourself on Mt. Rushmore, Spencer Cox. Okay, Ike is not really there, but he wanted to be there, just like Spencer does.
Problem is, of course, this project is a political gigantism ploy, a promise of outlandish proportions designed to direct the votes of a fractured electorate just before a tricky election, give us poor folk something of magnificent architectural proportions to dote on besides our floundering southern border wall, divert attention away from intractable state problems the guv has no idea how to solve and no desire to solve, and facilitate Cox’s entry into Utah’s political hall of fame to boot.
Proof that this project is a disingenuous bit of political puffery floated up in a big hurry before the election can be detected in the fact no practical details were given about the plan . . . except one. We Utahns will probably have to ask non-Utahns to build it for us through federal infrastructure money since, well, most of our money is already committed elsewhere.
DOT exec Carlos Braceros says, “It will prove a legacy for all citizens and visitors to the state of Utah for so many years.” What? The promise of it alone will suffice for all citizens and visitors? Sadly, our state leaders are probably right. Utahns “bet on the come” like no other people. We dote on promises that tinkle in our ears like a wind chime putting us softly to sleep.
