Leonard ignores boos to score a season-high 36 against former team

The Spurs traded Leonard to Toronto in a blockbuster deal in summer 2018 that stemmed from his desire to leave San Antonio after a controversial, injury-plagued season. Leonard hit a highly efficient 13 of 18 to go along with seven assists, four rebounds and two steals in 38 minutes as the Clippers improved to 3-0 against the Spurs this season with the series finale set for Thursday in Los Angeles.
“He’s one of the finest players in the league,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. “We are talking about the very top of the list — he’s with those guys.” After entering Friday’s game third in the league in assists per game at 27.0, the Spurs recorded 34 against the Clippers with nine players recording at least two, including Tre Jones with a team-best eight.
But the night belonged to Leonard, who scored 30-plus points for the third time in his last five games.
