Bell’s death was announced by her children, William James Bell, Bradley Phillip Bell and longtimeactress Lauralee Bell Martin. A cause of death was not immediately available.
“Our mother was a loving and supportive wife, mother and grandmother,” the family said in a statement. “Gracious and kind, she enriched the lives of all who knew her. We will miss her tremendously.”Born in Chicago, Illinois on June 9, 1928, Bell began a career in broadcast journalism in her hometown, and in 1953 began hosting and producing the afternoon talk show that would soon become, running on Chicago’s CBS affiliate until 1986.
As host of her Chicago show, Bell interviewed Presidents Gerald Ford and Ronald Regan; and celebrities including The Beatles, Judy Garland, Clint Eastwood, Jerry Lewis, The Rolling Stones, Lucille Ball, Jack Benny and Oprah Winfrey, among many others.
