Anti-riot police disperse stone-throwing protesters in Lebanon's capital, as heavy rain caps a weekend of violence that wounded hundreds
Demonstrators attend a protest against a ruling elite accused of steering Lebanon towards economic crisis in Beirut, Lebanon January 19, 2020.
Politicians have failed to agree on a government or an economic rescue plan since the protests pushed Saad al-Hariri to quit as prime minister in October. Hundreds of people yelled "revolution" in the commercial district of the capital. Protesters pelted riot police with stones and fireworks. "Violence only breeds violence," she said. "After all this time, all these months...I don't blame protesters at all if they move bit by bit towards violence."
