Earlier this year, GM caught the world's attention with a hint of the first-ever all-wheel drive Chevrolet Corvette, which many people speculated would become the first-ever Corvette E-Ray hybrid sports car when it actually made it to production. It would seem that speculation is correct, as an online configurator seemingly showing
, and likely way before the automaker was prepared for the world to see, confirming a few details about the electrified Vette.and E-Ray nomenclature. The E-Ray name, which is confirmed by the configurator, has been trademarked by GM for almost a decade, with a trademark renewal back in 2020 generating speculation it could finally arrive for the C8 generation.
The configurator seems to show a new five-spoke wheel design, a carbon fiber wheel option, a carbon-ceramic brake package, and a ZER Performance pack with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. Images show the model retains the rear-corner-mounted exhaust, not the centrally-mounted setup found on the Z06, and a redesigned front clip with wider bodywork overall, and bigger intakes.
It was previously speculated that the E-Ray model would"replace" a traditional Corvette Grand Sport trim for the C8, offering all of the Z06 options save for the flat-plane crank V-8 engine. The leak doesn't offer any hint at powertrain or power figures, though it's assumed the E-Ray will get the 6.2-liter V-8 driving the rear wheels paired with one or two electric motors on the front axle.
