FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Former Alaska State Trooper Alex Valdez is suing the City of Fairbanks, a Fairbanks police officer and the estate of a dead man.
Troopers reportedly attempted to pull over Lane near the Mitchell Expressway and Airport way intersection on June 20, 2022, for reckless driving. He fled. Law enforcement said at the time that Lane then brandished a handgun and pointed it at a female passenger in his car; after reportedly failing to comply with commands, officers with both Alaska State Troopers and Fairbanks Police Department shot and killed Lane.
