We chat with TheWitcher's Lauren Hissrich & Declan de Barra about TheWitcherBloodOrigin's music and how its lore connects back to the main series:
The Witcher: Blood Origin's imminent release approaches, opening up a whole new era of the Continent on Christmas Day. While the miniseries is ostensibly a prequel to The Witcher, it is set over a millennium before Geralt and Ciri's journey begins and uses Jaskier's role as a bard to connect both shows.
Lauren Hissrich: Honestly, the music is entirely important to The Witcher. We started out with Joey Batey's character, who is a bard, and obviously music is his way of sharing story. The fun part of this, of course, is that Declan was highly involved in the music of seasons 1 and 2. He wrote songs, he sang on the songs—he was literally so involved.
The whole idea was that song and words are the most powerful weapons anyone can have. They're greater than any army or any institution. But it was a huge risk because I'd written a lot of these before we cast Sophia, and I had no idea. That scene where Sophia's singing in the cave? That's one take. She nailed it, and everyone was like, "Oh!" And she wasn't even a singer before. She brought all this life to it and gave an extra layer to all these songs that I wrote.
