Sosa co-founded a San Antonio-based ad agency that had many national clients. Starting with former U.S. Sen. John Tower in 1978, he helped many Texas Republican politicians craft TV spots and print ads. The ads played a role in boosting the GOP’s once pitifully low share of the Hispanic vote to respectability.
Sosa, who produced ads targeting Hispanics for the presidential campaigns of Reagan, former Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush, voted for Abbott in earlier gubernatorial elections. But no longer, he said. As he signals in the O’Rourke commercial, which also ran as a digital ad for three days last week, Sosa is dissatisfied with Abbott’s response to the electrical grid’s failure in February 2021.
