“Larry hates being CEO.” That was the response I heard from a senior Google executive a couple of years ago when I asked whythen the CEO of Alphabet, the parent company of Google, refused to talk to the press, rarely talked to Wall Street investors, stopped going to all of his product launches, even more infrequently addressed the employees of the company he oversaw, and, generally hid in his office at Google like a secret villain obscures himself in a cave on the side of a mountain somewhere.
Page has been criticized endlessly over the past few years for being an “MIA CEO,” as one former Google executive once described him to me.
