CEBU CITY — The local government of Lapu-Lapu City is reassessing its safety protocols for water sports activities following a tragic accident that led to the death of a tourist at a jumping balloon attraction on Olango Island.
Mayor Junard Chan confirmed on Monday that Pinky's Floating Cottage has been issued a cease-and-desist order while the police conduct a thorough investigation and the safety measures at the resort at Sitio Basdako, Barangay San Vicente are reviewed.The fatal incident, which occurred on July 11, involved a 45-year-old woman from Cagayan de Oro City.
My heartfelt condolences to the family of the guest from Cagayan de Oro,' the mayor said.The investigation by the Lapu-Lapu City Police revealed that the tourist suffered a fatal spinal injury due to the impact of her landing on the water balloon.A video of the incident showed the tourist landing head first on the balloon before plunging into the water. Resort staff quickly rescued her and transported her to the hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
