The first-round draft pick has averaged a team-best 22 points on 41.2% 3-point shooting in the Lakers’ first two games in Las Vegas, and new Lakers head coach JJ Redick likes what he sees.
The biggest piece of advice Redick, one of the league’s all-time best shooters, has given Knecht so far has been related to how to create space for himself before running off screens. Knecht has carried a significant ball-handling role so far, initiating the offense through pick-and-rolls and dribble handoff actions.
“Right now, he’s on the ball, which we need him to for his team,” Johnson said. “But we’re trying to get him to run off screens, which he would do in the NBA. If we can get him a little more off-ball actions, that will kind of translate to the next level for him.
