Many Filipinos lack awareness and understanding of political developments due to a deficient education system.
NOT many Filipinos are aware, and if so, are that much concerned about the political developments in the United States of America or the Middle East . After all, we cannot expect much from a people many of whom do not even have a working literacy even about our local politics or our political system. This is the tragic consequence of a basic education curriculum that has not been so kind and generous in providing space to political education.
The study of government and politics has been dispersed in so many subjects, and only those who are in the social science stream would even be required to take a course on politics and government. Even at the tertiary level, political science has been relegated to a mere elective. This, despite the fact that the study of the constitution is decreed by law.Thus, we have citizens who have a deficient understanding of how government works and are not familiar with the structures and processes of governance. They cannot even explain the difference between federal and unitary systems, or that we have a bicameral legislatur
