The LA County Sheriff's Department now says gun shops can remain open during the coronavirus crisis. It comes days after Homeland Security issued new guidelines labeling those who work in the firearms industry as essential critical infrastructure workers.

It also comes days after the Department of Homeland Security issued new guidelines labeling those that work in the firearms industry as essential critical infrastructure workers. Sheriff Alex Villanueva, who has attempted to shut down gun stores in LA County twice, confirmed the development in a"Although explicitly advisory in nature, nonetheless the federal memorandum is persuasive given its national scope," Villanueva said.

"Based on this further input from the federal government, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department will not order or recommend closure of businesses that sell or repair firearms or sell ammunition," Villanueva's statement read.
