To accommodate early morning commuters, Kolache Shoppe Kingwood is open Tuesday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 11:30 to 12:30 p.m., Kingwood runs the Late Bird happy hour, during which kolaches are buy one-get one free until close. The bakery is closed Mondays. Curbside pickup is available via online ordering and delivery is offered via Uber and Door Dash.
Hines and his wife Lucy are in the business of serving up the authentic homemade dough delights and are now expanding the brand presence of Kolache Shoppe into Kingwood. “She has a wealth of knowledge of the area and has been a super helpful resource for us,” helping them with a marketing guru, she said.“We are represented by a great realtor who ran a lot of demographic numbers for us, and we knew, anecdotally, that Nothing Bundt Cakes is going to be in the same family of boutique bakery as we’re in,” Hines discovered.
The model is based on the experience of the original shop opened in 1970 by Erwin Ahrens which has been the legacy on which the new shops now stand. Hines bought the original recipes and continues the tradition of fresh, baked kolaches from scratch daily.“We just thought this will be a mom-and-pop operation, and we'll just run it ourselves,” he thought to himself. With business growing, the opportunity opened for them to open the business to franchisees.
