Something is (maybe) wrong with Kit Harington's new baby in the creepy trailer for the psychological horror film Baby Ruby.
Kit Harington is a freaked out new father in the unsettling trailer for the indie horror film Baby Ruby. Harington was launched to fame thanks to his role as the heroic Jon Snow in the massively successful HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones. And the ride isn’t yet over for the actor, who is set to return as the one-time King in the North in the aptly-titled upcoming GoT spinoff series Jon Snow.
While Harington’s fans wait for him to once again don the robes of the Night’s Watch, the Game of Thrones star is busy making more down-to-earth pieces of content like last year's TIFF entry Baby Ruby, whose first trailer is now available via Magnolia Pictures and Magnet Releasing. SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Though Harington is obviously the biggest name in Baby Ruby, it’s clear from the trailer that the movie’s true star is Noémie Merlant, who made waves last year playing Cate Blanchett’s loyal assistant Francesca in the buzzworthy Oscar contender Tár. Strong echoes of the classic Rosemary’s Baby can be felt in the trailer, which also features Brightburn star Meredith Hagner.
The synopsis for the well-reviewed Baby Ruby reads, “The tightly scripted world of a vlogger and influencer unravels after she becomes a mother.” This influencer angle is indeed interesting, as it suggests a strong vein of social commentary running through the film. And one probably should expect multiple layers of meaning from the movie, given that it was written and directed by a Tony-nominated playwright. In fact, the movie looks like nothing so much as a slow-burn A24 horror movie.
Game of Thrones fans may or may not be thrilled by the prospect of watching Harington play a befuddled dad in a Rosemary’s Baby-inspired, A24-type horror film from a filmmaker with legit literary credentials. But the trailer suggests the movie will be a creepy experience for horror aficionadoes, with rising star Merlant giving a harrowing lead performance as a mom coming psychologically unglued due to the pressures of having a new baby.
