Oh Kiz, how quickly you have forgotten K.B.’s seven-year, $182 million contract. In 2028, at age 36, he’ll be making $27 million. He’d darn well better be the foundation/face of the franchise. The only problem is, it doesn’t look like he’ll be the dynamic player the Rockies thought they were getting. Tovar? He’s been a big disappointment, but I still believe he’ll be a solid shortstop. I don’t think a demotion to the land of “Breaking Bad” is the answer.
If they’re the only two players on this year’s team still wearing Rockies pinstripes on opening day of the 2025 season, it would be OK by me. Even better: Let every player in the majors and minors from this organization, as well as franchise owner Dick Monfort, leave for Las Vegas, and let us start over in the next round of MLB expansion. We’d be closer to watching a World Series contender than we are now.
