The Utah State Board of Education is following legislative-mandated procedures to obtain public feedback on the state's core standards for education.

The board issued a notice in June concerning the core standards with a link to an annual survey that helps them obtain feedback about upcoming revisions. This is part of a required 90-day public feedback period.

Board member Kristan Norton is the representative for District 15, covering southern Utah. She told St. George News she can't speak on behalf of the board but offered comment as an individual board member and an active educator. Norton teaches at Little Valley Elementary in Washington County School District.

Norton said it is a three-year process to revise the core standards, as they review and revise them this year, implement them next year and then assess them the following year.
