NBC News' Keir Simmons and his wife, Jess, took their 9-year-old twin daughters, Arianna and Ilia, on their first visit to the Big Apple — and they had a special sightseeing request that required putting their dancing shoes on.
Keir Simmons reports from the around the world for NBC News, but it’s his most recent trip that may really stand out for him.
Once the family made it stateside, TODAY cameras followed them around in a memorable visit to New York City as they hit one of the Big Apple's most popular tourist destinations: Times Square.“This is the heartbeat of New York,” Simmons said as the family strolled through the area. The Simmons clan then headed met with Sterling Hyltin, a principal ballerina with the New York City Ballet, who gave the girls a private lesson, as well as their own point shoes.The Simmons family, with park ranger Renell, enjoyed its visit to the Statue of Liberty.Next, the girls put down their dancing shoes and went to the Statue of Liberty, where they learned about the millions of immigrants who came to America decades ago.
