“LGBTQ asylum seekers today are facing an extremely hostile administration at the intersection of LGBTQ rights and immigration. From my perspective as a non asylum seeker, we have responsibility to make sure all members of the LGBTQ community have the safety to live authentically.”

“We really got started through a passion for this cause,” says Sgarro. “We learned as we went.” The pair surrounded themselves with volunteers and board members that could offer expertise in the arenas they knew nothing about. In 2015, they received $5,000 through the Millennium Campus Conference’s Millennium Peace Prize, as well as $15,000 through the Business Today Impact Challenge.
